The protocols of that time allowed users to send and receive messages of up to 160 characters to and from GSM mobiles. Although most SMS messages are sent from one mobile to a different mobile which supports the service has expanded to incorporate other mobile technologies like ANSI CDMA networks and Digital AMPS.
Mobile marketing is a kind of marketing that uses SMS. According to a marketing research report of the year 2014, the worldwide SMS messaging business was estimated to be worth over US$100 billion which accounts for nearly 50 percent of all the revenue generated by mobile messaging.
SMS enablement allows individuals to send an SMS message to a business phone number (traditional landline) and receive an SMS in return. Providing customers with the power to text to a telephone number allows organizations to supply new services that deliver value. Examples include chatbots, and text enabled customer service and call centers.
